Glow plug amps?

How much current does each glow plug draw? Pencil type. Thanks.
Bud

Something like 7-10 amps each.

When I tested several Glow Plugs one at a time with a 60 amp automotive dashboard type Amp Meter I found that that they would peg the gauge at 60 amps for around 1.5 seconds then as the plug got red hot would go down to 16 amps and stay at 16 amps. This was on my 84 300D. The test was done on new Bosch Glow Plugs.

From section 15-4000 -

Quote:
Turn the key in the steering lock to position "2"; the current consumption of each glow plug must be 8-15 amperes after 10-20 seconds. If the reading is higher than 15 amperes, renew the glow plug. If the reading is less than 8 amperes, test electric cable or plug for interruption.
From section 15-0705 -

Quote:
When the glow system is switched on, a current of approx. 30 amperes flows to each glow plug. The heating winding heats the glow plug very rapidly. The control winding increases its resistance as the temperature rises and limits the current to approximately 8-15 amperes. The glow plug is thus protected against overload.
I guess the strip fuse is a slow blow type.

When I did the above it was with the Glow Plug/s out of the Engine and wired to a 12 volt Battery sitting on the ground.
