one thing that scares me about locking the stuff is that a thief will destroy your car to get into it. For example if diesel is 7.00 dollars a gallon, he'll take a crow bar and destroy your body panel and gas cap lid to get inside. I'd rather him just take the fuel. NEVER lock your glove box if you have a nice dash.

I don't lock my car either, not because the locks don't lock, they lock fine, its the unlocking they can't seem to do, including the gas door. I run straight vegoil and the way it looks when I take my cap off to fill up I don't think any would want to steal fuel from me.

hey since its my thread I would like to go off topic and ask, "hows the straight veg oil working" I am looking at a long term plan to plant some african oil palms in my yard. I have a full acre in the rear of the house. from what I am reading you can get 19 gallons of oil per year per palm from oil palm seeds. I could drive all year with 30 trees.....and they look pretty cool too

Yeah, I've heard that line of thinking before, but I don't believe in it. I think there's a better chance the thief will move on to another car if yours is locked. Besides, there aren't many people desperate for diesel. The vast majority use gas, especially in the big guzzlers.

Wow! That's some good-sized property. I'd make my own forest if I had that kind of land, but not necessarily for oil. I just like trees.

Can't complain, ran all last year and didn't spend penny one at the pumps, I figure it was pennies on tank full to filter. I don't know about palm plants, I've been looking at Jatropha, bit toxic but high oil content, that and if it would grow in my land in W Texas, bit arid out there. Check out Biodiesel.infopop.cc site it has most info on veg and biodiesel.

Other than needing to buy a press to get the oil from the seeds, it sounds pretty cool. There is a guy on the Ford site that grows his own fuel. Makes me long for a small farm.

I have 9-10 live oaks in the back right now, but I am going to cut them all down. The leaves are little sliver things that are amazingly able to squeeze into every crevice and crack in your car, house, pool, etc. and they are highly acidic so when the sit they produce a black oily substance that ruins paint or whatever they are on and they kill other plants, like GRASS. I hate them. The front is about a half acre with 9-10 trees but the trees there are all mature and 40-50 feet tall. needless to say I have no grass in the front, but they are too big for me to cut down, FLA will fine me if I remove those.

I looked at a press that was advertised. It looked to me like an old thermoplastic extrusion screw and barrel. I have a few connections in the plastic business so I will ask around for an old barrel and screw. If not I think I could make something from an old hydraulic cylinder. The trees wont bear fruit for about 4 years so I will have time to scrounge something on the cheap.

I have never researched veg seriously. I am reading old posts now. But if you have a short summary of the issues with straight clean veg oil can you please elaborate? I still want the palm trees, but I could always just sell the oil if its going to cause issues in my car. thanx

If you want to avoid serious problems in your engine, you need to heat the veg oil. But even with heating, injector coking & combustion chamber deposits can build up. It's better for your car to use biodiesel instead (very different from veg oil) but it takes some chemistry if you want to make it on your own.

Sorry to burst your bubble but theres simply no way you could power your car on 1 acre of land. I think you may be able to get a gallon a tree at most

still researching viability. heres what got me started looking

http://miami.craigslist.org/mdc/bfs/972688238.html

I know its a scam but I am trying to figure what bit of truth is buried in the lies.

worst case is I get rid of my Live oaks, plant palms that I love to look at, and my girl gets the greenhouse she always wanted.....
