Are any more new diesel cars being introduced to the US this year?

OK we've now got diesels on sale from MB, VW, Audi, and BMW. Is anybody else bringing one in 2009?

What happened to the diesels from Honda and Subaru?

The one I really can't understand is the 65 MPG Ford Fiesta they sell in Europe. Here's Ford in deep trouble and they're not bringing their one car that could shut up Congress and everyone else about mileage. I read where Ford isn't bringing it over 'cause it would have to sell for about $25K. So what? People are paying close to that for a Prius.

I know but the EPA chokes the diesels down so they won't move hardly. What we need is a fuel, like bio. Then these engines could breathe.

Nah, I cant see that IMO...

Here in Europe, I believe our emissions requirements for Diesels are stricter than most of the USA, but BMW still manage 200BHP outta a 'standard' 3 litre diesel 'compact', and that same BMW is allegedly 'tunable' to over 300BHP with a few mods....

Nah, Its all to do with the way these multi-national car giants are set up--They (Car-Co's) are too powerful in the USA...

In comparison to the USA, cars here in Europe are hideously expensive.

Maybe its a case of, 'Pile 'em high, Sell 'em cheap in the USA.....

face it...... US standards are meaningless.

Everything shipped here meets CALIFORNIA standards. Car makers are no willing to ship a car here that will pass all but one (California) emission standards.

I saw screw CA. Let them bake their own egg on their faces. Ship us those cars that pass US standards and we just wont visit CA anymore. CA folk will move out cause its too expensive. CA will drop in population, grow over with trees and then only happy tree hugging hippies walking will live there. Which is fine. When the BIG earthquake comes and drops CA off into the ocean it won't be such a big loss LOL

Im going in June only cause we got to (National Championships)

There is no reason they can't bring Diesels over here, they don't want to bring them over.

That is one of the main reasons I strongly opposed the bailout. Let the "big three" die so better companies can have a reasonable chance to get going and make something worth buying.

Have you seen the news lately my friend? the "Big 3" are barley afloat. Chrysler is projecting it will be out of business by April, with Ford and GM just hanging on by a thread.

Im not sure who currently has the Highest emissions standards. Though i think its currently the US, because we RARELY see any diesels introduced here. Where as in Europe, they are all over. For instance my Mitsubishi Lancer comes in a 2.0L Turbo Diesel which i would do anything for, but it is not an option here in the US. only a 2.4 or a turbo version thats in the Ralli-art or Evo.

Cars in the US are just as Ridiculously expensive as cars in Europe. Its just a matter of Which brand we are talking about. European cars here are grossly overpriced and we are only offered a select few models from these company's. Where as in Europe, those companys offer relitivly decently priced models( MB offers the A-class, B-Class etc), where as im sure American cars in Europe are the same way.

Just a matter of what part of the world you are from and what's a Status Symbol.

Exactly! They made there own mess, sealed their own fate, and now the government gave them our tax dollars to prolong the inevitable death? Even if they/ when they go under, foriegn automakers make up 50% of the employment for the automarket. So the BS of how the economy would suffer more from job losses if the big 3 go bankrupt is dumb. It just means that Foreign auto makers will take over the market with good, decently priced, well made automobiles that actually HOLD there value.

Its not that the diesels can't meet emissions, its how they are tested for emissions.

G@ssers are certified by emissions per mile.
Diesels are certified by emissions per horsepower-hour.

Thats why the VW Touareg V10 TDI can look like one of the dirtiest vehicles on the market yet a V8 powered SUV that gets half the fuel economy can be certified as an ULEV.

well, my buddy out in Maine finally got his Isuzu TD mounted into his toyota one ton, so theres one more halfbreed hackjob running around out there.

But I am not sure if any mass produced rides are coming. whats the latest on mahindra's??(sp) they supposedly had a decent looking(ok- it was ugly, but diesel) diesel-electric hybrid mini truck coming this way.

Mahindra is an Indian company. While I like the people from that country, I would never buy a vehicle from there knowing its low materials quality (They have to overbuild just to hold together).

I'm rooting for the Big 3 to die.....I bet it will happen too....they're not doing well at all. I used to see a lot more new pickups and suv's and cars....lately I've seen a whole lot less Big 3 products driving around.....its becoming an Asian car world.....and VW's....with the occassional MB/BMW....Subaru etc....

The Honda Accord diesel should be here this fall. That is what the sales Manager at the local dealership told me.

Hyundai will begin importing a Diesel Veracruz and Kia has plans for a Diesel Sorrento to come soon.

..And don't forget the long awaited 4.4 Powerstroke in the '10 F-150 pickup!

Yeah, they really know how to make Diesels.

Lowest in anticipation.

Dodge will use a completely new cummins with chain driven SOHC.
GM will use a completely new engine with the unique feature of the exhaust in the engine valley (where the turbo is) and the intakes on the ousides.
Ford will use cheap engine with belt driven SOHC. It only shares the "powerjoke" name.
