Palomino or Blue???

Okay, I'm confused.....

Too much of this going on for me to keep the colors correct.

There are several 87 300 in the boneyards here.........I think they all have Palomino ....oh, wait; one has gray (or is it grey?).

If you find any with a driver's side interior mirror trim that is not broken, Please grab it. I'll buy it from you. The top plastic pin is usually broken off, like mine.

Ahem... It's not gray or grey. If it's in a Mercedes, it's grau!

Really? I have a perfect one in Palomino/Saffron 'tex, in fact I have the whole W124 interior which needs a new home before I run it all through a wood chipper.

Sem color-coat has worked great for me, I have probably bought and used around 50cans of the stuff in several car and motorcoach interiors.

For vinyl, I find that using 3M "general purpose adheasive remover" as a prep and cleaner, it opens the pores of the vinyl and makes it accept the color-coat well. After drying/curing, the color-coat is as durable as the vinyl beneath it.

What about primer before color?

Did you use a prime coat before the color or apply color directly on the "bare" vinyl?

I use the 3M cleaner directly on the vinyl, then apply the SEM color-coat directly. You might notice a bit of softening from the SEM spray, a very aggressive solvent. Large vinyl areas I've done appear a bit loose from the vinyl becoming soft and loose, but tighten as it cures.
Further, it dries faster than a lacquer, if you're working any large area be sure to keep a tack-cloth around to remove overspray (dust) as it accumulates quickly (dries before settling out of the air). Try to avoid overlapping a dry area, it will leave a line.

Doesn't hurt to spray a scrap of vinyl first to get a feel for it. Try rubbing it off, doesn't happen.

I'll take the mirror trim piece if you want to sell it. Is the interior from a wagon or a sedan?

Thanks for all the good suggestions. I was unable to get "Shadow Blue" in the SEM spray can at my local paint store (like to deal locally if possible) so I ordered a couple of cans through Amazon. I'll try the mirror trim piece first and if I like the job I've done, I'll try spraying the black dash that is ready to go in, so that it will match the rest of the dark blue interior.

And this type of request is best sent thru a PM....so it doesn't get lost.

I did a frt seat once ,what I did wrong was not to us a adhereant .Much like a 3m addihesive that is set to be a prebonder to the paint ,much like when you paint bumpers. When you paint blue interior parts youll be happier if you go with a paint thats one step darker ,thats been my experience.

Are you sure it's not "mushroom"?

(that's what I seem to remember the VIN decode coming back as, on my car's gray interior.)

You could be right, but I don't know how to spell mushroom in German. I really only know the basic colours so that I can translate wiring diagrams that MB neglected to translate in to English for us.

Understood.

I started to learn the German names for colors when I was working on my first car, an 82 VW diesel jetta.

At least we're not trying to translate from diagrams that were translated to Russian first!
