Engine Rebuild in progress

My engine rebuilding is going very well. You can see some pics on my photo album: http://www.aspmingo.myphotoalbum.com

I do have questions though.

1. How to I verify I have the crank and cam lined up perfectly?

2. How do I verify that I have the IP timed correctly when I re install it on the engine?

3. The last Item on the engine I will be looking at is the IP pump. I know nothing about it. I never saw this engine run prior to the rebuild. I would prefer not send the pump out for testing. My question: What can I do before I reinstall this pump to get a idea of how good it is? Should I send it out? I was considering removing the side and bottom panel.

Thanks Jim
