Viton fuel lines - source?
Folks, Jim at fryerpower said to may try the lined fuel lines from JC Whitney. I've got mostly Viton now in my biobuggy, except for the return/supply lines in the engine bay, and the short rubber line off the tank filter.
I saw some viton line at MCMaster, but wasnt sure which one to use. At $5 a foot, I hope not to replace it again soon. Anyone used the lined fuel line from JC Whitney? Or exactly which line do I use out of the McMaster catalog? THNX! Last edited by WINGAS; 02-08-2009 at 08:12 AM. |

The $5 stuff from McMaster is 1/8" wall and is really flimsy. You don't want to use that. The lined stuff is much cheaper and more durable. You want SAE30R9 rated hose. It it viton lined. Greaseworks sells this hose in bulk, and often you can find it in your local parts house. Just make sure it is SAE30R9 and you'll be fine.

I have been told by the MB parts guy, although I have not verified this for sure, that the new MB fuel hoses from the dealer are viton lined.
I have replaced the original hoses all with the supposedly viton lined stuff from the dealer last year - no sign of leaks or problems thus far. But if there is a good mcmaster equivalent found Id love to know about it. It's expensive guessing game to find the right hose from McM-C :-) dd

I am using Tygon brand from Mcmaster; not sure about the part numbers but I will look them up. I bought both supply hose from the tank and the little return hoses for the injectors. Both were relatively cheap and good quality (we use loads of Tygon hoses in the medical world). The ones I bought are rated for diesel fuel use.

I got some thick wall viton hose from mcmaster that is working great. I'm about to buy a $200 roll and sell pre-cut kits.
The stock MB lines are defiantly NOT viton lined, and with the ULSD they seem to start leaking too quickly.

And high qual hoses from Carquest are starting to show some issues. One is abraided, against the IP, which is no fault of the hose. But since I have to replace them in a bit.... thnx for the replies...Andrew thnx for the spec, it'll give me someting to go on...

Try Goodyear/Parker, I get all of my hoses made there. Just tell them the application, drop the credit card and be happy.

Not the 5/16" feed lines you didnt. I just picked up a full set of Viton Orings from Jim, he doesnt stock fuel line, just return line. The Goodyear 30R9 is available thru AutoZone according to their website. By GY's own spec sheet, its biodiesel proof.
I'm not worried about air bubbles in the supply/return lines. One of the best things you can do is get the Viton orings from Jim and seal that prefilter but good! |
