You could check with Mercedes. My engine was replaced. Mercedes had the info on it.

auto transmission diagnosis

I worked in a transmission shop a year. If the fluid stinks, you are burning clutches, time for a rebuild unless there is an adjustment on a band that will fix it (rare). If you don't pressure flush the fluid in a transmission, best condition diagnosis is the amount of paper and metal schrapnel in the bottom of the pan before a fluid change. Not much junk, replace the leaking seals and roll on (unless shaft wiggles). Ounce or two of paper sludge in pan, due for rebuild. Metal shavings, due to die quick, might be expensive. Sometimes a rough shaft will tear up new seals, sometimes they have to be smoothed down with an abrasive cloth strip using the "shoeshine" motion.

it tells me that someone wrote on your core support. I bet brake cleaner will take it off, then you won't have to wonder every-time you pop the hood.

The unknown can be outrageously frustrating. Hang in there, this forum has helped me through MANY issues with my wagon, 300D and the SDL. Good luck!!

my bet is that you have a rebuilt trans. Mercedes transmissions seem to fail at or near 200k. I got a transmission with 170 k on it and got about 5k out of it before I had to replace it.
