Question '80 300D Trans drain plug leak...

Help..MB rookie here..doing inital maintance on new purchase. Changed trans. filter and upon refill leaking at the drain plug. Plug+washer+dip stick tube+washer. When started noticed that previous change someone used a silicon to seal, why can't I get a clean seal without silicon?

Found the problem, leaking between the pan and the threaded insert that is brazed to the pan. Where to find new pan? Quick fix with gasket to seal.

Try replacing the old washers with new ones. You will find that MB uses "use one time and replace" washers in several places.

Red face 300D Trans. plug leak

Yes, I have used the new washers that came with the trans. filter. Crush washer? There were two in the pack but today the parts store told me to use just one. Drain plug+washer+dipstick tube+pan.......hope that's the ticket.

Err. When I pulled mine apart for the first time, there was a crush washer on the top and bottom of the return line fitting. It needs two.

Did you get the old one off of the pan? They like to stick there and pretend to be part of the pan, but they are not.

Assuming you removed both of the old washers the first time and it still leaked, did it leak before you touched it, and are you certain it's not leaking between the pan and the threaded insert that is brazed to the pan? Where was the sealant applied?

My car leaked a little when I got it, but began leaking hardcore after I fought to get the drain and return line removed - Came to discover that the brazed joint cracked when I pulled it apart.
