Return lines bleedinng!!!

I fnally after two weeks of being a hanger Queen, Got the car to turn over.
I primed the pump and pulled off injector lines( they were dry.
two qick shots of starting fluid nd she cranked over.
Dorve it around and ran well.
sounded a little ruff but not a lot of vibration Oil cap just laid there!! ( good thing)
I noticed the the return lines were leaking on three of the five injectors and there was a crack in the return hose to the fuel filter.

Want to replace all the Return lines.
they say napa 1/8" fuel lines, (black)
can I use the Clear fuel lines to keep an eye on things?
would this also cause a drop in fuel to the injectors when it's turned off?

Every 2 and one half years they are supposed to bleed....
Some people used to use clear weed eater fuel line... but some said that did not work very long... Phil here or Mercedes has the cloth covered proper line for this...

I don't think it can have an effect on residual pressure since the return lines are open to the fuel tank.

Get return lines from the Buy Parts link at the top of the page. The right material lasts long enough that the cost doesn't matter. There's nothing to keep an eye on in the return lines until fuel leaks outside the lines.

Where to buy fuel return hose:
http://www.mercedesshop.com/shopforum/showthread.php?t=238219&highlight=Rabbit

This is from one of my past posts:
Volkswagen dealers also sell the injector retun hose as the older VW rabbits have similar injector bodies. It may be slightly cheaper to get it from them instead of mercedes. stocked under the VW number N 20 252 5 but Mercedes uses the same hose as well as many others who use Bosch Diesel injection systems.
If you need to fix it right now regular vacuum hose will last a 1 or 2 weeks before it gets eaten up and leaks again.
I used a piece of silicone vacuum hose on my Volvo diesel and it was on for a year with out leaks. However, when I took it off the hose was rock hard and had to be cut off and was no longer re-usable.

Due to the cost of Fuel these days it is a good idea to keep some extra return line in your trunk. The cost of leaking Fuel can easily exceed the cost of a meter of hose.

Nobody has said it yet so I will:
VITON!
Forget the OE stuff, unless you want to change return lines every couple of years.
Viton will last a half decade or longer.
Search for that word on the forum or google if you want VITON
Forget that Napa stuff. Forget clear hose if you want a material that will last.

Sorry. stupid question here. I changed out my return lines last night (thanks for the fast shipping!). Well, it was late and i had a couple.... Does the back most injector get one of it's return barbs blocked off? if not, where does the last one route to?

Thanks.

Yes it does. It usually comes with a meter of hose, OEM anyways.

I replaced all of mine with the proper MB braided line....5 years ago....and its still doing fine. Cost was about $10....use the correct stuff! Viton or the braided hose from the dealer/this web site.

If you want to keep the oil cap "just lying there" do not use any more starting fluid.

I was going to say something about the starting fluid, but you beat me to it.
