I had purchased a speedometer ( 125 MPH ) a while back. MPH worked, but not the mileage. Some of the gears were like over dunked cookies. I finally got everything back together with new gears. I spun the small pinion type gear, the odometer advanced fine. But, installed in car it does not work. What makes that pinion shaft spin ? Any ideas ?

it's motor driven off the power connections and it picks up a signal from the transmission to determine the amount of spin. if the speedo is working, then it's spinning, but you may have an intermediate gear missing.

The replacement pinon sometimes are a little loose.I used superglue gel for the pinon.

All gears are there and not slipping. Speedometer works. My other "replacement" speedo works ok, so I know the signal from trans is getting through. What ever makes the pinion shaft turn does not work. I'd like to swap some parts with the good one, but I'll probably end up with two broken units.
