'80 300TD Rear Pass Wheel Locking
Hi, I just Inherited a 1980 300TD Wagon
The Cars been parked since 2007, I've drained the oil and coolant, put some fresh diesel in and the car fires right up, But When I go to move it only the Drivers Rear Wheel is Moving, The Passenger Rear Will Move about 4 inches Forward or backward and then lock (like if the car were in park) The Car Drove beautiful prior to being parked in 2007 and I'm very eager to get it back on the road again. The Car Shifts Fine Into D or R and I'm not hearing any odd noises. Thanks Forrest |

Sounds like a stuck caliper. Probably need to replace it along with the other one.

Could be a stuck caliper or a seized parking brake. Jack rear of the car up, and chock the front wheels. Then release the parking brake and try to spin the offending wheel. I'd then pull the brake pad clips off and see if you can squeeze the pad away from the rotor, like you would to remove the pads. If you can then it's not the caliper. If you can't then you likely have seized caliper. If you can get the pads out then try spinning the wheel again. If it's still stuck then it's probably parking brake.

Old worn out brake hoses can act like check valves. They swell internally and hold pressure on the caliper side.
Check by opening the bleed nipple but, at this age the all need to be replaced anyway. |

Problem Solved!
I found it was actually the lug nuts that were causing it to lock. When the car was parked the bunt pan oem wheels were put back on, that way the new tires wouldn't rot but with the lugs that are used for the Flat face style wheels, so the lugs were hitting and causing it to lock up. So I Put The Flat Face Wheels back on and She Moves Perfect. Next on the List: New Windshield WAX Headlight Doors Fix Dents In Hood I'll Take Pictures at sometime Thanks For The Help ![]() |
