So i have now been locked out of my car 3 times because i leave the keys in the ignition when i am working on it and the doors lock by themselves! This is the only car i have ever owned that does this with the keys in the ignition! This is getting really old. I have been leaving the window down when i have been working on it lately. Is there any way to make the car not do this? Also annoying when you get out of the car and go to get something out of the back seat but the car has already locked the doors!!! It is really annoying! I will decided when and if i want the doors locked.

sounds like a vacuum line is hooked up wrong. i had the same happen to me but my front windshield on the 77 is out so I wasnt locked out. Check the vacuum line config at the mast vacuum switch in the drivers side door

well the locks function just fine.... its just that after unlocking the door if you wait ten seconds they lock by themselves . you can hear the the pump or whatever in the truck turn on when this happens.... its like its programmed with a timer or something

the procedure for checking central locking is on the w126 service disc could be one of the actuators in the doors

W126's do not use vacuum from the engine like the W123's.....they have a separate pump.
Sounds like the switch in the door or something is triggering the pump when its not supposed to.

I will point out that on the pre-84 W126's this would be impossible, because the drivers lock is the only one that operates the locking system, and as such, it has no vacuum connection of its own. So if the pump went crazy only the other doors would lock, the drivers door would remain open. So my car is immune to this issue.

ok so after looking at the service manual documents and checking the entire car over .... the system is completely fine! pump only runs for about 2-4 seconds tops. locks are quick and don't lag like some other mercedes i have seen. switches are functioning, there is no shorts to be found. I just hate this feature it locks by itself and i don't want it to. How do i disable this feature? Why a car would lock by itself 15 seconds after it is unlocked is beyond me but i don't like it!
