Also, AutoRX takes two applications and at least one rinse cycle. The first application takes about 2,500 to 3000 miles. Then a rise cycle of 3,000 miles. Then another application of 2,500 to 3000 miles. You use regualr or 'dino' oil for this. I can't say weather it works or not. This is my first try and I didn't run this engine much before. It was fairly clean on the top of the head, but the oil did have a lot of soot in it.

The 1981 300D that I had (and getting back soon, YAH!) has bad valve seals. Oil comes through when the engine is cold. Once it is warmed up no oil consumption. Most of my driving is less than 20 miles at a time. With conventional oil I had to add a lot. I switched to 5W40 synthetic. The oil consumption dropped dramatically and the cold start in winter is great. I never had to adjust the idle setting for a high rev. idle. On a 300 mile round trip I could find no evidence of oil consumption. Another perk it the fuel economy gained a bit.

In short even if you engine is old and worn you can likely benefit from synthetic and don't be afraid of using 5w40.

Rumor has it that using cast iron rings when rebuilding will also cure blowby...
Sorry guys, I meant Mobil Delvac-the jug with the tractor trailer on it.

I shouldn't post when I'm tired

Delo 400 or Delvac Super will reduce your blowby by cleaning up the rings and making the seal right.

Mobil Delvac 1300 Super is what I use too. Walmart has it in gallon jugs.

I had told my story where my Volvo Diesel had sat 1 year not running and when I got it going I did not notice my Thermostat was opening too soon and keeping the Engine too Cool. I drove it like that for around 6 months. Both, resulting in hazy tailpipe smoke.

I believed I had sticking Carboned up Rings.

I removed the Glow Plugs and put in 1/4 cup of Marvel Mystery Oil and let it soak for almost 5 days and repeated the soak for 3 days or so, (I did change the Oil before driving it.) And, it did free up my Piston Rings resulting in no more Hazy Smoke.

So I do not think he plans to mix it into his Crankcase Oil.

Why not use one of the flame arrestors that were found in the old V8's????? I think this would cut down on some blo-by issues....Robert

i fully agree with this comment. blow by is normal on them, and what seems like a lot for these engines really isn't. just be sure to stay on top of filter replacements
