Source for OM606 injector shim packs?

Guys,

I had a line on shims for my 606 and now that seems to have evaporated. I'd like to move forward with the performance upgrades to my injectors and I'm pretty much stuck without the shims.

So, any ideas where I can get a set?

In one of the Threads concerning Injectors one of the Members mentioned getting shims from McMasters Karr (I do not know if the spelling is correct). He was speaking of 617 type Injectors and I do not knoe of the 606s have the same size shims or not.

I order from them all the time. I can't fathom where I would look on the site for those though.

If I had dimensions, that would help too.

I checked the Russian EPC site and the shims appear to have different part numbers so the best guess is they are different sized.

But, I also guess since they are Mercedes part numbers you could get them from Mercedes.

The dimensions are 9.8 mm od which is .385 inch andj 3.0 mm id which is approximately. 120 inch. These are impossible to find. I ended up buying a punch die set and some shim stock to make my own.

Additional: I made my shims .375 inches od and .125 inches Id. Which is close enough. Found out that for every. 001 inch shim the pop pressure goes up 40 psi. All my injectors were 200 psi low so a .005 shim did the trick.
BTW the 617 shims...the pop pressure goes up 25 psi for every .001.

I am going thru this myself on my 606 and came across your post. Since I need to raise my pressure about 40 bar looks like I need .005 mm shim, correct? Where did you get the shim stock and where did you get the punch set?

First of all you didn't read the information correctly. I was talking about psi not bar. In order to relate to what I was specifying you need to convert bar to psi and work from there. I'll do some math and check in later with a recommendation. I could make up a set of shims with additional shims for fine tuning but it might take a few days.

Looks like you needs shims
.0145 inch to achieve a 580 psi discrepancy. I would recommend starting at .013 inch and see where you are. You'll need some method of measuring shim thickness. Otherwise you'll just be guessing. I've noticed that over time the springs fatigue a little and pressures decline. In my case my car had 140k miles and the pressures were down 200 psi. Remember I'm talking psi. Which is what most gauges read.
In order to fabricate these shims it isn't all that hard except you'll need a punch diesel set and shim stock. In your case you know where to start so you can eliminate some sizes. I would recommend you go up maybe 100 psi to account for future pressure drop. Or not.
Don't remember how much it was to obtain the components necessary to make the shims but I'm guessing it was around 100 bucks. Of course you need a pop pressure tester to. I use diesel fuel to check pressures.

Good luck.

Yea I mistyped in my first reply. I had calculated the same .0145" as you did. It looks like McMaster has shims that are about the right size but I am concerned about the ID on theirs. Id is .250 on most of the ones I found there and am not sure if that is too big of a hole in the center.

If I remember correctly. I looked into the McMaster shims but wasn't comfortable with the id being more than twice the factory specification. So I made my own. Also if additional shims were required I had the option to make more. That's important because if you need additional shims and have to order them then you wait till they come in and the job stops till they do. So buying what you think your need is a crap shoot. Maybe you'll get what you need....maybe not but you car will be laid up until your able to complete the task.
Just sayin it's nice to have options.
BTW good to know what to expect when ordering Bosio nozzles.

I really do not know why the Bosios popped so much lower than the Bosch nozzles that were in there. The only thing I can figure is the nozzle itself must be slightly shorter. The ID bigger only concerns me if the spring is smaller than what the ID is. Otherwise I would not think it would matter. Especially if you have the factory shim sitting next to the spring.
