LR Window Guide Rail

On my '84 300D Turbo, the left rear vertical window guide rail (probably not the actual name) is disconnected at the top. This is the rear rail which typically the window travels in when powered down into the recess of the door. It is supposed to be held by two bolts, one top and one bottom. The bottom bolt and location are not an issue. However the top of the rail has never been fastened since the car was purchased. Does anyone have a picture/diagram they would post of how the upper portion of this rail is supposed to be secured?
Thanks,
Steve

steve, worst case scenario, use a level to make sure the guide is completely vertical, then mark a spot on the sheet metal from inside the door through the hole in the guide rod, and drill a hole in the sheet metal, then put a nut and bolt through it. or just weld it once it's vertical. weird problem though. i thought they were welded on the w123 chassis, and bolted on on the w116--could be wrong though

Sev,
Thanks. In a sense, you are correct since the front one is welded. The rear is not. I'll snap a photo of the piece and post it later this morning. The lower end has the receiver threads so that end is very clear (I unbolted it to remove the piece from inside of the door). The upper has a U designed into the standoff which is welded to the piece. I have loosened the bolt that the upper U slides over yet with it being nearly out of sight, and with another unit sharing the same bolt, I cannot tell if the U is intended to slide between the other unit (don't know what it is ... yet) and the metal of the inner door skin, or if it is supposed to go outward of the other unit and apply a nut to the end of the bolt. If it is the latter, then the bolt that is in place would be the wrong one since it lacks the length necessary to add both a nut and a washer. Lacking a photo or diagram of how it should go, I could remove the RR door panel and reach up in to feel how it is secured. Hate to do that since as most of you know, getting the door panels back in place is often a two-person job.

If I have figured the procedure of linking to SmugMug, the above link should take you to three photos of the rail. I hope this helps getting an answer for me.

Answered My Own Question...Now Another

After removing the RR door panel, I found the answer to the placement of the upper portion of the removable window guide rail. However...

When I am able to get the window lowered enough to get at the "sliding window glass jaw", is it adjustable right-to-left? As is, the bar along the bottom of the window glass is so far to the rear of the glass, it is interfering with the proper insertion of the above mentioned guide rail. The rubber/felt seal that fits into the guide, and that is intended to smoothly allow the window to move up and down, has been pinched and gouged. The piece clamped along the bottom of the glass is so far to the rear it protrudes into this seal (hence the gouged condition).

If the jaw is in fact adjustable, I should be able to at least move it as not to obstruct putting the guide rail back in yet I believe I'll still need to replace the seal (it appears it goes all the way around the fit of the window minus the bottom edge). Guidance would be greatly appreciated.
Steve
