It's pretty easy to remover the cylinder as long as it still turns. It is removed from the front, no need to work under the dash. You just turn the key to the first position and use a small tool (paper clip) through the small hole at the edge of the cylinder. That releases the ring around the cylinder so it can be unscrewed, allowing you to pull out the cylinder.

If you need to remove the entire ignition assembly, it will take 20-30 minutes under the dash. It's not a nightmare unless you wait until the key can no longer be turned.
