To replace....or NOT to replace (mount bolt)
So...here I am again R&R the motor mounts (not replacing this time though) and I'm just wondering if the main center M10 bolt should be cleaned up and re-used...or would it be prudent to replace the bolt with a fresh one? (Concerned maybe this bolt is getting worn out and is in a high-stress application)
The current ones *look* fine - hex head not stripped at all, etc. Also noticed that these center bolts are sorta weird. They seem to have a sort of built-on washer at the head. If I went *aftermarket* with this bolt, would be just be okay to use a standard M10 bolt (matching hardness) and put a couple washers on there to match the thickness of the 'built-on' one...or should I stick with a MBZ bolt in this case?

I have not read of any reason not to reuse the "Washer Head" Blots (I reused mine).
I have read of them breaking during removal but do not recall reading of one just breaking by itself. If you are worried about over tightening it if the FSM has a torque for it use that. Maybe someone will supply that torque for you.

I had one break while tightening it after I had replaced the mounts. http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/showthread.php?t=266793 It was kind of a puzzle to remove the stranded piece of bolt. After that I replaced both ... got them from the dealer and they weren't outrageously expensive.
While mine did break, I don't think one is likely to break on its own, although I'm not an expert in physics. My bolt broke under extreme torsional force (I idiotically WAY overtorqued it) ... that type of force wouldn't be reproduced by the engine or movement of the car. The correct torque is 75nm. Don't go over that ... read my thread.

For as often I wish to replace the engine mounts, I would go for the MB bolts. Hardness, size, etc will be factory orginal and you will save the agg.
BTW, Big Time cudu's to your attention to the hood & frt of your car. That finish is factory. Fantastic for a '85. Gary
