hybrids are a waste of time unless you are in stop-start type conditions. For a couple of years I had a daily drive each way of 50 miles. I used the brake twice each way, once at the front gate & then when I got there. There was no engine braking at any time along the way so no battery charging.

Some interesting posts. Hopefully the bad injectors won't slow things down too much.

I love the concept of Diesel Hybrids! I just got back from the auto show in my Camry Hybrid. I averaged 38 mpg, and it's 90% freeway. I don't think Hybrids are useless. They actually charge whenever you coast, not just when you brake. Although my car is rated by the EPA at 32 Highway, I get 40 on long trips with no special techniques. In the city I get close to the EPA rating of 33.

Most of the early Diesel Hybrids I expect will be mild hybrids, since the Diesel engines cost more to produce already, it doesn't yet make economic sense to sell Diesel full hybrids. (might make more sense where gas is $8 gallon.)

What was a waste, was that there were no Mercedes at this years car show! The 2 cars I really wanted to see were the new E Class and the VW Golf TDI. They had a base model Golf 2 door, and a Jetta TDI Sportwagon, but no Golf TDI. I'd take the Sportwagon though.
