temperature sensor on '80 240D
I have been reading previous posts regarding glow plugs and the glow plug dash light. I have read that the glow plug system has a separate temperature sensor (attached to the green wire) and I have read that the No. 1 glow plug controls the temperature sensor function. Can anyone clear this up for me?
If there is a seperate temperature sensor, is it about the middle of the engine block (attached to the green wire?) My glow plug light on the dash will not come on, however, I believe the glow plugs are working. I live in Indiana, and I have yet to have a problem starting the car. I have also read, however, the the glow plug relay makes a ticking noise when working and mine is always silent. I have not replaced the glow plugs, but they look nearly new. The dashboard glo plug light will light if the circuit is bypassed, so I know that it does work. HELP! Any advice is appreciated. Thanks. |

...I don't believe you should hear a clicking noise...maybe on a Ford... As far as the coolant temp sensor, the one you want is about where you described it...about midship on the engine Drivers side. As far as the coolant temp. sensor and the #1 glow plug...the CTS only works in relation to the GP module/relay system, and has no direct relation to the #1 GP.. (correct me if I'm wrong senior guys.)
