SLS Question, air cells

I bought an 85, Euro, 5 spd TD, 215K, last weekend and have been busy bringing it "back". Its a typical case of the original owner (a doctor from BC) taking good care of the car and the next guy, not so much. The air cells need replacing and if I remember right its just a matter of unbolting the old ones and installing the new ones right? I bought a couple qts of the proper fluid but wasn't planning to flush the system as the fluid in there looks good. The shop manual mentions "draining" through a valve in the line I've done this job before, didn't I just "plug and play"??

Shes "Diamond Blue Metallic" and according to the Russian site, came with the MB tex (dark blue). I'll post some pics later.

Yep, just unbolt and replace. However, there's a lot of pressure in the system so I would just barely crack the banjo bolt and let the pressure slowly bleed off unless you have a need for a hydraulic fluid shower.

Thanks Kerry, LOL, a brake fluid shower wasn't much fun so I'm assuming "SLS juice" wouldn't be fun either

I did this job once in my friends shop on the lift and dont remember anymore then having a heck of a time getting the hyd lines off the cells even with the proper wrenches. I'll get to it after another cup of coffee.

I did that job. As I recall, the banjo bolts on mine were totally shot and corroded. They had to be removed with vise grips. Before you begin, head to the dealer and get two of the correct banjo bolts. I didn't and had to go back and replace them later as they were leaky (I tightened the old ones back on with vise grips just so I could drive to the dealer). I couldn't find the part number on the EPC, but the dealer parts counter guys should be able to figure it out.

Make sure you also have the properly sized crush washers. I'm pretty sure they're the same size as the oil pan drain bolt, so if you have a bunch of those kicking around they will work (you need 4).

Pretty much plug and play. Pretty easy job and makes all the difference in the world.

BTW - You gonna bring one of you sweet Euro rides to the PNW Get Together in July? There is more info - http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/showthread.php?t=271303

Thanks for all the input. The job is done including the test drive, no more bouncy, bouncy I was very leery about corrosion as the other one I did needed vice grips on the fittings and was quite a chore but this one was no problem. Its pretty rust free, a little hole rusted through the battery tray outboard, rear corner, only a little surface rust under neath. The locking system is not working, clutch master is leaking just a wee bit, antenna wont get up plus a few other things to look in to. I well get some pics posted.

I am going to try for the GTG, July 17th Mt. St Helens, right?

We heard her erupt, thought someone was blowing stumps and I'm sorry to say we have never driven up there. Ive flown over it but driving up there AND seeing allot of nice MBs would be very cool.

Glad you got it done. Yup, the 17th on Mt. St. Helens. It's been a while since I've been up there. The APE Caves are really cool too. 2 or 3 miles of lava tubes you can walk through.
