616 broken camshaft 240D manual
hi folks working parallel on my third MB 240D manual. I got it with a broken camshaft. missing first half of camshaft / broken valve cover
Found some post relating to different camshafts possible . I will have some pictures of the damage to post with this. engine # 616 011 28 01 rear camshaft bearing # 617 051 12 12 SECOND / third bearing size 49 MM rear 1/2 of camshaft # 616 10 head # 616 016 7?? 4?? 0?? 4 ?? The engine is out of the car . It turns over by hand as long as you keep the chain tight. Did a leak down test and all cylinders are the same . No hissing sound out of exhaust or inlet. Some air escaping past cylinders but all same flow for all 4 cylinders. I operated all valves by hand to let air escape and see if they would close again. All do. May be valves / pistons are OK. Here is the question. There are 2 older ( 78 /79 ??) 240 in the scrapyard. Could that camshaft / bearing tower be compatible? Thanks Johan
