Very nice car John.

The "steam-cleaned look," opaque-white spotting under the hood, mixed with a little surface rust in places on the engine, indicate to me perhaps kept outside in an area of the north that uses winter chemicals that the car was driven in. Lots of cars get that look.

My 16 year old W126 300SD with 305K miles on it when I sold it in '99 - had none of that look. My car was a one owner when I bought it - and I garaged it when not being driven, the 8 years I owned it. It was a local, Dallas, Texas car the whole time before and after I bought it. Never spent but a few winter days a year in Omaha, Nebraska a year - with the road chemicals.

I wonder if brasso would break down and clean that white clouding?

Brasso probably would ... I havent tried it but Tarnex might take a bunch less effort for equal or better results.

heh, my 93 parts car has an awesome set of black leather seats in them... I'm seriously contemplating swapping them in. I'm sure i can find a way to make the heaters work!!!
I know what you mean. My wagon drivers seat is so soft compared to any other mb seat including the 93 W124. I love it. Now my passenger seat is a bit worn out and harder. Can you interchange passenger and driver seats on these?

Seat frame, cushion, and cover yes, but the controls have the memory feature on the drivers side so the motors and wiring are not the same.

I got the complete maintenance history printed out for this car...
3 climate control units?
two cruise control amps, and a servo... no the cruise does not work.
MASSIVE a/c work over the years. nope, it doesn't work either. it did when I bought it, but in the 4 months of sitting, it's failed.
more to come...
