I double-checked and I cleaned it up pretty well the first time. I POR-15'd it though I don't have matching paint for it. Ah well, it's in the engine bay, it'll be okay for now.
Thanks for the pictures, yikes, that's a scary thought. |

Hi, I changed the voltage regulator with a new Bosch unit, I'm now getting 14.10 at idle (with the car cold since it hasn't been driven in the last few days) instead of 15.8, is that acceptable?

Well it is far better. The battery was overcharged remember so you could still be reading a little residue of that. The alternator would not be actually charging. .
Read the battery now with the car not running. 12.75 or a little less is a full charge after sitting for fifteeen minutes or so. Any higher is a battery overcharge still remaining. Turn the headlights on till the voltage falls back. Only then start the car and you will read the alternators voltage output. Just covers all possibilities. At that point fourteen volts at a elevated rpm of say two thousand is acceptable. I would qualify it as high normal. You may still read fourteen volts at idle as well. |

I did a check up after running the the post office, it read 13.8 at idle with the car warm. I will wait a little and get another reading, thanks for the help.
Performing the above test I got 13.08 with the car off for about fifteen minutes. I turned on the lights, let it drop to 12.75, started it and it went back up to about 13.08, eventually leveling off to 13.80 about 30 seconds later. Last edited by alfa 75; 08-23-2010 at 08:30 PM. |
