Replacing gorilla knob

Hi,

I came across a beat up 1975 240d that seems to run well. Might be a perfect car for my daughter. The only issue is that sometimes the car won't shut off and the hood has to be popped to push in the gorilla knob. There's slack in the cable - it's been adjusted which fixed it for about a year, but it should be replaced. (all this info. is from talking with the seller, not seeing it myself, so forgive me if my description isn't spot on).

My question is just how fixable is this? Are the parts reasonably available and priced?

Thanks!

Very interesting reading. I'm not sure it completely answers my question regarding the ability to fix this problem/replace this mechanism. It does appear, though, that this set up is not very common and that people replace it with a "pencil" type.

I will keep reading and searching the web and forums. Any additional info. appreciated!

I believe there are rubber bushings in the gorilla knob bushings which deteriorate and prevent proper operation. They are down around the steerign column IIRC.
