I'm still on the prowl for a wagon but I need more info.
1. What is the engine setup on an '82 wagon. There's one I found with a 6 cyl., would this be a 3.0 or 3.5 and where's the info? 2. Do they ever come with 5 cyls.? 3. Is the 5 preferable to the 6? 4. Is the 3.5 really bad as some of the archives of this site suggest? 5. What is the compresion on these engines(any/all of the above) and as I've only done gas compresion checks, how does a diesel compresion check change from that of a gas? 6. Finally, I've noticed that there are 300Ds out there with manual trannies....If I had a donor car how hard is the auto to manual modification (I have an unreaonable fear of autos). Any answers would be greatly appreciated, Thanks in advance, Patrick. |

Thanks for the information so far, now if I had the right compresion tester, what would the compresion be and with what possible variance?
When I looked at the posts for diesels it seemed the price for a rebuild was a little high so I'm trying to be careful, I've rebuilt engines before, but if the parts cost too much the whole process gets a little painful. Thank you for your help and happy holidays, Patrick. |
