What are these parts - please tell me here they go
Well, I knew I am going to have parts left over that I will be wondering about...
(1) This first mystery part is a plastic thing (looks like something is broken off of it) that fits in the hole on the driver side of the transmission, in the front. Looks like it could be some kind of rpm takeoff sensor (except its not, the rpm sensor is in the front) or speedo sensor (which it isn't, either). I was wondering about it ever since I separated the tranny from the engine. ![]() here it is taken out ![]() (2) This next part is some sort of a shield and I cant figure out where to stick it ![]()

#1 - Is a plastic plug that is used to retain the torque converter and to keep it from falling off when the tranny is not attached to the engine. Yours looks like it was mangled on its outide part. If the torque converter doesn't come off easily with the tranny that part will usually break off if not removed prior to the seperating the tranny from the engine. |

the sheet metal is a heat deflector between the turbo and the battery. the groove goes around the coolant pipe.

#1 should have a hex head, but looks like yours is stripped right off. Agree with #2 as well.

The shield looks like the smaller one at the front of the exhaust manifold between it and the compessor side of the turbocharger.

Please take this with a pinch of salt - as my Euro W123 often has other different looking bits - but that shield reminds me of a shield fitted over an engine mount... ...but don't worry it probably isn't!

I was a little confused about that also... but it would not have the cut-out for the coolant pipe in it since being mounted top the engine would allow it to hit the coolant pipe occasionally. I am pretty sure this mounts to the chassis |

Actually to the inner fender. Easier from underneath. Uses two 8mm head sheet metal screw looking things, and one that mounts under the leg sticking out of the battery tray.

Thanks guys... from what you are telling me, I can just glue it in place so the hole is closed.
The shield - sounds like I will be putting the motor back in first, then figure out where it goes. And to think, I took pics of my engine bay before I took everything apart... maybe I need a new digital camera!!!

The plug holds the TC in the bell housing while the TC is separated from the engine. It's an assembly tool.
