Front Spring Perch/Spring Tower

Hello:

I have a 1997 300E Diesel, W210 body style. Yesterday, the front left spring tower/spring perch failed and separated. The front right looks like it is ready to let go. What is a better way for this repair job - welding or riveting? I live in Vancouver, British Columbia. Can you suggest a reputable shop that I can take my car to for this job?

Thanks kindly

Wabenze

Welding for sure. That's a lot of spring force to contain with a few rivets.

Check what the dealer wants for the job. As I understand some dealers are so familiar with the job that pricing is competitive.

I am curious about when it failed. Were you driving it when it failed or did you noticed when parked? If you were driving at what speed did it occur?

i'd take it to a fabrication shop and have them weld and reinforce the crud out of it. and then use square tubing to reinforce it to somewhere else that's stable, too

Perch Spring

I had the front perch spring welded on my 1997 E300 Diesel after one let go a couple of weeks ago. I am now getting a "break Lining Wear" message. Is there a possibility that the body shop could a crimped a wire while replacing the springs? Or could it be something unrelated?

Thanks.

I was driving at about 30-40km/h when the spring failed.

Either of your suggestions as to why the Brake Wear Light is on seem logical.
If it were mine I would inspect the Brakes and the Wires.
