Ignition Wiring Help needed (botched tumbler replacement)
Does anyone have a diagram for the wireing of the ignition plug? The first intuitive combinations failed......I'll never make it without help!
Long story short my wife's 81 300SD ignition tumbler locked up. I tried all the tricks and ended up eventually breaking the key off. So dieselgiant style ignition removal. Not to bad however I did not realize that the key had to be in the on position (not possible) to remove the wiring harness off the back and pulled the plug apart mixing up the wires. Thanks, Stephen

Found it with a question!
OK I found it! SD Blue posted it some time ago.
It works, however the radio has power now when the key is off. Could this be because the 2 Red wires that are identical and go in holes marked 30 could be reversed??? From what I can tell, from parts sources, the ignition switch should be the same as mine. Here is a listing from a diagram that I have: 15R...........RED-GRN WARNING MODULE 15.............RED-BLK FUSE 50.............VIO-WHT NEUTRAL SAFETY & BACK-UP LT. SW. 15X...........RED-YEL FUSE P30...........GRN-WHT LT. SW. CONN. 30.............RED LT. SW. CONN. & STARTER 30.............RED STARTER

To answer my own question in case someone else ever needs the info. Yes the 2 identical red wires that go into the holes marked 30 do indeed go into a specific spot. My main concern was that the radio had power all the time even whith the ignition off. Bad if the wife is used to not having to turn it off manually.
I switched the 2 wires and now everything operates normally.

Good Job! Electrical issues intimidate people, and that kind of job is a bit tricky. Is the tumbler working better with the new lock assembly?

I have not replaced the lock assembly because it seems to be OK. I am waiting for the new tumbler to arrive so I can install and do the final asessment. I used a 4" L head grinder to get through the steel collar and grind the tab off the tumbler so it could be removed. Actully turned out pretty well and I think the collar will still function correctly.
I was actually able to drill the lock assembly pin with the correct size bit just enough to get it to release. On reinstall the steering lock still works because I was able to leave enough of the pin intact. Thanks.
