Checked mail. Got my valve wrenches!!!

What a surprise! I Didn't think they'll arrive till Wednesday. Christmas came early! Happy birthday to me! HA...

I've got 2 bent hazet wrenches. Is a third wrench needed? I've seen kits with 3...

Can someone point me to a thorough valve adjustment and compression testing how to? I looked but couldn't find anything dummy proof.

I used the diesel giant how-to. They are very easy to do.
Get a new valve cover seal. Takes about an hour if you degrease the valve cover and putz around with everything. Good time to clean and re-grease the throttle linkage.

The third wrench is for holding the "cap" that covers the valve spring. You don't always need this as it may not turn whilst you are adjusting...

I've been informed (here) that it is best to go for the larger clearance during an adjustment as the valves tend to tighten with use.

Have a look on YouTube for some videos for a how to - a moving picture says 10,000 words!

I searched for valve adjust before making a recommendation. I would have to assume the OP did too.

Thank you! So I'm going to purchase a valve cover gasket from AllPartsExpress. Is there anything else I need to purchase for this job?

While I have the cover off, I'm going to also do a compression test (I have a kit) and going to check my timing chain stretch. Anything additional needed for this so I can purchase everything at once.

Between 200-250K miles I replace the timing chain = don't waste time checking it..

I know there's probably no way of getting this answered but I'm going to ask anyway... Is there a way to check if the chain was replaced during the car's life? I bought the car from the original owner's daughter. She didn't know much about the car. I believe her father is not around anymore. So I can't ask the PO.

Which is better?

* Using a crutch.. (offset Woodruff).

* Having the painful corns removed.. (new timing chain returning the engine to correct timing).

Eight of ten engines will perform better with a NEW timing chain.

It requires the same labor/time to install an offset Woodruff as a NEW timing chain.

No.
There is no way to verify without impeccable records.
