1994 300dt injection pump gear relpace??
hey does anybody know how hard it is to replace the ip gear? im looking at buying a 93 300dt that needs the gear replaced, because the vacuum pump wont jump. the engine was replaced a few years ago and i guess they didnt put the gear on right. its a a friend of mines shop and he says you have to mess with the timming. he is a german auto repair shop. he dosent like messing with the ip timming, hasnt had good luck with it in the past. the cars got bout 200k on it and i think i can get it for bout $1200ish. is there any literature on here about replacing the gear and timming? or anybody in or around coulumbia, sc that knows how to do it, that would help me??

There was no 300D in '94. Is this gray-market or a different year? In '95 the 300D was an E300 diesel, and had no turbo (dt??).

I believe that the timing chain on that car/year had issues, also the vacuum pump can lose its bearings and damage the timing device (as well as total the engine is some cases) so beware of those problems.
Removal of the timing device seems feasible without changing the timing, the trick is to be sure of the position of the crank/cam/IP (TDC) and remove the chain tensioner, which hopefully will give enough slack to remove the timing device with the IP in place. If not, perhaps you could remove the cam gear at that point so that there is enough slack to remove the timing device without loosening the IP mounting. If the IP is not moved, and all remains at TDC, the timing device is on a splined shaft, so it'll index right back where you started. I have not removed a timing device without removing the IP first, so this is theory, someone else here might know better. If that's all it needs (and I think I have one), $1200 is a great buy IMO.

Welcome
Only 12 "Franklins" ?
I'd be all over it! The Drive Sprocket for both the Vacuum Pump and the I.P. is Also the "Timer". You can remove it without taking off the I.P. This'll give you an Idea of what you're dealing with. start here: http://www.w124-zone.com/downloads/MB%20CD/W124/w124CD1/Program/Engine/602_603/07.1-8014.pdf Complete FSM: http://www.w124-zone.com/downloads/M..._603index.html DAVE'S (GSXR's) "Website" is a Godsend of Info! http://www.w124performance.com/images/
