606 Engine Noise Getting Louder @ Idle ? ?

The 1999 210 has recently gotten louder @ idle. Neutral or drive makes no difference. Sounds like the engine/trans is under load, or higher idle. Idle speed is about 550 indicated.
Listening under the hood, no discernable/identifible noise to me, but with a stephscope I am getting a ticking sound near the front of the block.

I am wondering if the vac pump is the source. With 250K miles, is this an expected replacement intervial ?? I would perfer to replace, prior to the grenade. Is this a problem with this 606 engine.

Second problem with gearshift not returning to Park postion, still working on this, after removing console, shifter module and removing a small "ball-chain" key ring from within.

For the noise, it's probably the mount. Try reverse and see if it gets quieter. My car has gone through 2 sets since I bought it in 2006.

The vacuum pump is a totally different design from the OM603. It's driven by a sliding slot drive, kind of like a universal coupler and the vacuum parts are isolated so they can't get into the cam/IP drive area.

After a second read, I may have mis-interpreted your description. Is the ticking the only extra noise you're hearing or is it vibration too?

I had the same sound with my engine, and it turned out to be the belt tensioner shock up front. It looked fine, but apparently the rubber bushings were worn and allowed metal to metal contact. It sounded like a bad lifter in a gas engine. Replaced the shock, and all is well. The sound was only heard at idle.

Kartek,
Are you refering to the engine mounts? I have replaced 60K ago. If the trans mount, I have not replaced, could be the culprit.
Drive, Reverse, idle, same thing.

I will replace the idler & belt, as the belt looks good, but has 200K on it.

I am getting vibration & little louder engine noise, when in passenger comp. Under the hood, I can discern a ticking sound, amplified with the steph.

Maybe I am making a mountain out of a molehill, but I have had women passengers who noticed a louder sound w/ vibration at start up & idle.

Drop tension on the spring tensioner and fire it up for a couple of minutes.

If the noise is still present it is not related to the belt or accessoriy devices.
