I'm working my parent's 81 240d and I removed the shifter for rebuild but need to leave the tranny in neutral position while I take the shifter home to work on.

There are no lock holes on the shift levers so I'm at a loss determining the correct position of all three. Is vertical on each of them the neutral position?
