OK it sounds like you've got a newer transmission than the picture I posted.
If you have a quick search on the internet I reckon you'll find plenty of data (some of it written by ATSG) on the 722.3 transmission. You should then see roughly where the most likely place is for a leak to come from... ...I can't help anymore so I'm banging out!

I think, in light of the probability of dropping the trans to get at what ever is leaking, I might just pull the drivers seat, pull the carpet back, and cut a square out of the tunnel. Easier to weld it back in then pull the trans, IMO. I'll take pics... |

Well, after more cleaning and hunting around w/ a mirror, it seems that the vac modulator o ring is the likely culprit.
Here's the one I pulled off. What should (at least according to picture of new one) be an O ring is a hard piece of plastic that's probably not doing much good sealing... I'm gonna put a new O ring on it and cross my fingers... |

Update to this car: all is fixed, finally.
In case any one else has similar issues, I'll elaborate. Replacing the hard plastic ring (might have been an O ring at some point in its life) on the vacuum modulator on the drivers side of the trans fixed the slow leak of fluid. It was possible to pull that out and fix w/o dropping the trans. The neutral safety switch issues that kept car from starting were due to the actual plastic piece of the NSS that clicks into the shift linkage on the trans. I took the NSS off to check it, drilled out the rivets and all, tested perfect. When I went to put it back on, I could see that the arm of the NSS would not fit into the shift lever. So, pulled the linkage off and flipped the arm around. Fit perfect. That also fixed the sloppy shifting (into D or R). It looks like the PO that had the trans serviced put that part back on wrong. LOL. So, leaking oil cooler line - Fixed NSS issues - Fixed Leaking trans - Fixed Missing front right lower control arm bushing - Fixed Yahoo! |
