AC hose assembly questions.

I'm replacing most of my AC components, compressor, condenser etc. All the fittings are O-ring type except at the evaporator.

I've never dealt with this type of stuff so any advice about keeping things leak free would be welcome. How tight, using "nylog" etc.

Pictures would help...
When I constructed my indash Karman Ghia AC from three different hang on units.... I found that the fittings which were proper for what I was doing simply had arms on the outside...and concentric ribs ... the arms were to ' locate ' the SS screw up type hose clamps...
But without pictures of what you are facing this is just filler till you post them....

2000 words for better clarification... :

The whole thing has fittings like these. I've never fooled with them before...

Kind of weird that the "bubble" on the aluminum tube doesn't fit into the counterbore where the O-ring fits. all the fittings on the condenser, drier, etc are like this.

Strange to me to me... Seems like it would leak?

Help me Greg

aww, come on...

With the Nylog... I think you will be fine..
but what about the color of the O rings..
have you decided which refrigerant you are going to use ?
Color of Nylog will have to match refrigerant....

All the fittings I have came with green O rings and I don't know what that means...

I'm going with 134a to start with and I would like to be backwards compatible to r12. My compressor shipped with PAG 100 and it says compatible with r12 and 134a.

It's coming down to the wire now

The Bubble ring on the Tube is a "Locator" for the O-Ring

"Snug" (Without dreaming of Stripping the Threads) is the Operative word.
['Could there BE Different Types/Colors of Nylog depending on the Refrig/Lube ?]

(I'm So Backwards)
[I'd Start Out with an R12 system.'Cause I KNOW I'd NEVER Wanna "Convert" to 134.]
(That Damn Pesky R12 just blows SO Cold,I'd forget 134 ever existed!)

if the bubble cannot fit inside the fitting, then the o-ring should be thick enough to fill the void I'd think. are those fittings the ones supplied with the lines?

They are all supposed to be standard fittings and they came with O rings. Some components are from different suppliers. You think it looks weird as well?

I would expect the o ring to be compressed when the fitting is tight. Having it "float around" in there doesn't sound like it would work well.
