I wish I would have kept my 2004 Dodge Ram 2500 Cummins turbo diesel, I have a 2010 Dodge Ram 2500 ctd, but like the 2004 better. I also have a 1992 300D 2.5 and 1984 190D 2.2 and they are great.

If I could do it over again I would not have sold my tobacco brown 80 300SD. Man, that car was a beauty, about 130k miles and an immaculate leather interior. The PO before me (TClanton on this forum) dropped about $4k on new seat covers and boy were they nice. But, at the time I was car heavy and cash flow light so I sold the one I could get the most cash for. In hind sight I should have taken a different approach.

I was just gifted a beautiful 2005 Prius with 25k miles on the odo. I'm really want to keep my 93 W124 300D. Just have to figure out how to keep three cars now...maybe find some storage somewhere.

You work next door to me. Let me know if your W124 ever goes on sale. I'll give it a good home.

I've sold all my MB diesels.

The diesels were treated a bit differently than some of my other cars.

While I still have some vehicles I've owned for decades, they never really were considered daily drivers, but kept and used infrequently as toys...

The diesels on the other hand, always had to perform yeoman's duty in the fleet. That meant that they were used as daily transportation, and as such, had to be kept in 100% reliable condition, and cosmetically nice.

As much as I enjoyed them, I would eventually replace them as they became uneconomical to maintain/repair. For years, I replaced them with newer MB diesels.

Then it got to the point that I could no longer find suitable MB diesels to buy. For my own reasons, I never warmed up to the W210s, at first it was cost, then reputation, not to mention my wife's insistence on a wagon body. The W211s are fiendishly complicated, which lowers my interest as well. The last straw was the economic argument. Newer gas engines have gained on the diesel, both in terms of life and economy.

Rather than defect to another brand, I switched my buying habits to gas engined MBs.

Not that I've given up on diesels, I still have my Dodge-Cummins 4wd and my Kubota tractor.

That being said, the one I regret selling most was my 83 300SD, anthracite over grey tex. Boy, was that an enjoyable car to drive. Bought it for my daughter to learn to drive with, and it was a duplicate car to my pristine 83 300D, so when it came down to thinning the herd, one had to go.....

I miss the 240 I just sold. I know I'll be lucky to ever come across one as nice.

I consider myself a restorer of sorts to these old diesel benzes and I miss each one in their own way.
1)79 300td ,alot of issues ,worked thru most
2)78 300cd,another none turbo car but got it cheap.
3)83 300d ,it was an easy fix ,gas pedal assmbley rubber bushing ,good to go.
4)88 190d ,had trannie issues ,you couldnt get final gear til warmed up,3 fluid changes had it working again.
5)84 300d,found almost to late but it had a wonderful interior.
6)84 190d ,vacuum pump destroyed ,it was lucky no metal found a gear or chain.
7)84 300td ,the best wagon I found ,a real barn find with cloth interior.
8)84 190d, 5 spd with a need for master and slave cylinder replacement.
9)83 300cd ,a real undergoing for the frt end ,had plenty of life left .
10)84 300cd , previous owner left his mark on this one ,cigar anyone.
Started buying these cars in late 04 and have had fun doing the hobby ever since, yards keep it on the cheap and searching is half the fun. The greatest feeling is starting up the motor on a new potential find ,that never gets old .Eventually you have to let each one go to another owner . It gives me pause each time I turn over the keys and watch a new proud owner driving off down the street out of view ,I do this everytime just as a reminder why Im doing this hobby ,you wont get rich but for only in your own glory .

Regret? Why?

You made decisions based on all the info you had at the time and you decided it WAS the right decision. We cannot live in the pass, once the decision is made then life moves on. It is only a monetary decision. It you have the money then there are a lot of good diesel to be had again.

The only regret I can see while driving in your diesel is the light is turning RED, and in split seconds, you decided to run the light to save a few seconds. Not knowing there is another car coming in the other direction then ...

That would be a big regret as it may not be a monetary issues any more. The same can be said for DUI, red light camera etc.
