incompatible door checks
I talked my wife into dropping me off at the junkyard yesterday while she and the kids ran some errands. I had about an hour to work, so during that time I figured I would pull all the door checks off an '82 300SD, which I assumed would be compatible with my '83 240D. Not so. To my disappointment, I realized when I pulled one of my busted checks tonight, they are slightly different. You can see in the picture how the end tab on the 240D check is bent - which fits with the way the door metal is pressed on that model. I thought about trying to put one of the 300SD ones in the vice and bending, but I don't think that would go so well. Seems like there are several versions of these checks floating around out there. Maybe I'll have to buy some new aftermarkets; I was just hoping to snag some originals that still worked well.
If anyone is interested, I'll be posting them for sale in the parts section. I also grabbed two vacuum elements for the door locks. On the high note of the day, I also grabbed the wires I needed for the radio. The PO of my 240 had cut the wires to install a different head unit. He then pulled the other stereo and slid the original Becker back in for the sale. Unfortunately, the original wiring harness didn't get returned with the stereo. That's taken care of now. . . . let's jam! ![]()
