auto transmission install question

1983 300 cd, 617 diesel. Engine and transmission out of car.

I was bolting the transmission to the engine and snugged up the transmission bolts. I tried to rotate the torque converter and it would not move. Looking from the bottom I noticed the flywheel had a slots in it for the torque converter bolt flanges. Those have to be aligned before putting them together, and I did not do that first.

Question: Snugging the bolts with it out of alignment may have forced the torque converter backwards a little, correct? Do you think I damaged anything?

I corrected it and it bolted together now. No fluid is leaking from converter seal and it spins fine.
