83 300D No Power To Blower
It's getting cold, so I decided to fix my heat. #1 problem, the blower doesn't work. I pulled it and it was a little stiff, so I lubed it and now a 9V battery spins it. However, there's no power to the blower. #8 fuse is good. There's also no power at the blower resistors.
Based on some information I found in this thread: http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/diesel-discussion/306300-blower-motor-not-working-1984-300td-wagon.html I'll be testing the switch on the thermostat housing a little later. I'm guessing that it gets a reference voltage and is supposed to be open when cold and short when hot, or maybe the other way around. As long as it does something, I'll take that as an indication that it's good. If that doesn't fix it, what do I look at next? Also, if fixing it the "right" way doesn't work, how many amps does this thing draw so I know what gauge wire and how big of a fuse to use for the improvised repair?

I tested the switch on the thermostat housing. No reference voltage either cold or hot with the key on, ACC switched to Econ, and the thumbwheel on min. The switch is open when cold and short when hot. Tried again with hot engine and same settings except for putting the thumb wheel on max. This time I got .045 volts. I'm thinking that's not right.

blower motor
the blower motor should spin free, When you get to plan B Toggle switch on the dash , relay and circuit breaker. on gives you high and off gives you residual air from the car moving. If your pumps working you will have to open your windows on a 10 degree day

Someone posted a link in another thread to the FSM. From that I was able to determine that it's either the blower regulator or the blower switch. Neither one is cheap, and ACC sucks even when it works right. Thanks to the data in the FSM, I was able to establish a pinout of the blower regulator 12 pin connector and wire in a toggle switch that allows me to have the blower on about the 4th or 5th speed. It works well enough to get me through the winter. Eventually if I find the motivation I want to switch it over to manual climate control.
Edit: Now I should probably start fixing the heater in the blue thing.

Make sure it's not a wonky ignition switch. Does the key return to the slash mark in the 'run' position? If not, line it up. Try wiggling it/ turning it slightly in either direction and see if the blower fan comes alive. I've seen this numerous times- Worth a shot!
