1985 300TD Steering box part number?
My steering box from my 1985 300TD has an odd part number on it's side that doesn't return any results on google (except a single German ebay ad), nor does it match the supposed steering box for my year/model, as per the local European auto parts store...
The part number for the box says: R 118 461 04 01 After a bit, it says 'YY'. I'm positive it starts with '118'. I'd have thought it should start with '123' (or maybe '126' if it's interchangeable with something on the 126 chassis). Can anyone verify that this is right or not? I'm trying to get a re-seal kit and it may not be appropriate for this box. If it's wrong, is there any explanation for this? My initial thought is that maybe it came from a W128 chassis vehicle (ie the '118'), but my understanding is that they didn't have power steering, being 50's vehicles. |

Well I don't know for sure - I think you should either get your own EPC account or ask the dealer what type should be fitted...
According to the FSM chap 46-010 3rd version for W123 is 123 460 58 01 The problem is that the FSM might not be in date for the end of the W123 production run... so contact someone who can tell you more
