What Spec 27mm Socket to Turn Crankshaft?

Can someone tell me the best specs for a 27mm socket (depth, etc.) to turn the crankshaft on a 602 engine? Ideally, I'd like to be able to do this without removing the fan. But I understand it's kind of tight in there.

Is 1/2" drive large enough for this?

Thanks.

I used the same one I used to remove my Injectors (1-1/16").

A regular socket with a 1/2" drive Extension will work.

A socket no more than 2" tall is a little easier to use than a deep/injector socket, particularly if you have an 11 blade fan

Is 1/2" drive small enough? Do you mean big enough? You're not going to find a 3/8" drive 27mm/1-1/16" socket anytime soon. I have no problem spinning the engine with a 12" ratchet and I'm not strong in any sense of the word. And yes, my engine has decent compression

Like I said, large enough. I just didn't know how much leverage I would need. Sounds like 1/2" will work fine.

Are you able to get the socket in there and on the bolt without removing the shroud? On the 602 it looks difficult.

I assure you, it's tighter in a 603 It takes a bit... okay, a lot of wiggling. Sometimes I set the socket in place then 'click' on the ratchet.

[edit] Just went out to try it. My Craftsman 27mm socket is 41mm tall. Set the socket on the ratchet, send the ratchet up to the pulley from the alternator side where there's more room, set the socket on the crank bolt. In 603, there's about an inch between the shroud and the pulley, just room for the ratchet handle.

That's good to know....I'm trying to avoid messing with fan and/or shroud (although I'm assured that's not that difficult).

That's great to be able to quantify things like that....I'll just get one exactly that length. Might get a flex head breaker bar while I'm at it.
