w123 300td Hydraulic Fluid Alternatives?

I know I'm probably going to get reamed for this...

I read somewhere (possibly in this forum) that iso 46 is very close to spec. Am I totally wrong? Should I go with febi or OEM only?

Amazon.com: Warren LU52462G "Lube King" AW ISO 46 Hydraulic Fluid, 2 Gallon: Automotive

Any other alternatives? Just want to pick up something local and not have to wait for shipping

febi and MB oe are exactly the same. I've used ISO46 successfully, but my 87 TD now has a pair of bad rams... the car had a bad wheel bearing and I drove a LONG way like this, so it's possible I damaged the ram driving like this. also I usually have a LOT of cargo in my wagon...

Id use it

I would use the iso 46 spec hydraulic fluid, if it is good enough for a $250,000 excavator I can't see it being a problem in our dinky little systems. I have a hard time believing that MB uses some sort of incompatible materials in their SLS systems. I believe that by far the greatest damage to the SLS system is caused by neglect to change the fluid on a reasonably frequent basis, caused in part by the outrageous price of the OEM fluid. These are my opinions

I used AeroShell 4 fluid, which my manual lists as an option. This is an aircraft hydraulic fluid, and it's a mineral oil fluid which will not damage the seals. I think a gallon jug was $30 at National Aviation Supply. Try local FBOs, shipping liquids is expensive.
