Wow I wish I had that kind of luck. Every time I leave my garage door open the neighbourhood cats piss all over it...

Must be an 82 or 83. Nice, those 240`s have a way of doing that, they just sort of slip in.

Well, first of all....there's a unique plate on the glovebox. I need to take a pic of it. Maybe it has the name of original owner who apparently was a Mason.

Secondly, this car is not permament to me. It's just at my house for me to work on the AC --- the owner is down sizing and is selling this 300CD:
Mercedes 1984 300CD --- 2 door coupe
which I posted over on the Craigslist Alert thread and keeping the 1983 240D pictured in this thread. I haven't driven the 300CD yet. I found driving his 240D pleasant though. Really like the manual windows. Working AC will be a plus thoug

Thirdly, I got a few things in trade for working on his AC. More on that ......later.

Thread Jack? I've done it, too.

So, last night, I got the old compressor off....drier off....expansion valve off. Removing the R4 compressor is a bear. Car is raised up on floor jacks; a lift wouldn't have helped. I'm glad I cleaned the engine compartment earlier this week. I still got covered with "diesel grim".

Flushed out the system. Installed the new Expansion Valve, added oil to the compressor and hung it up. Used a floor jack to hold the compressor up while I got 2 bolts started. Opened up the brand new drier and added the low pressure "switch" to it and installed it. I hooked up the vacuum pump and pulled a 28+ in Hg vacuum. It's still there this morning. The weirdest thing about all of this is the work light I was using --- my shop light with a clamp broke a few weeks ago.

I forgot to order a new belt from Phil and AutoZoo didn't have one (special order; sheesh!). Hopefully I can find one locally and button up everything by Saturday.

David,
I need to find someone like you to teach me all the basics of AC, one of the areas where I have not ventured. Sadly, there's no one like that in this area.
