what vacuum lines are not needed?
i have an 87 300d om603 and im looking to remove as much of the vacuum system as possible to make it cleaner looking and reduce failure points.
So far i have unpluged the EGR valve and the ALR? valve and have removed the big maf looking thing under the airbox. Tomorrow im going to remove the alda and install a boost gauge. I heard things about removing the vacuum pods under the airbox and things like that but cant find a definite answer so any help is really apreciated! Thanks, Adam |

this falls into "Do-at-your-own-risk"
That being said, I did cleaned up all of the suggested lines from the diagram since my climate control pods dont work, so there was no point for me to keep anything going to the cabin. The only line that I kept was the black line going from the cabin into the IP port (clean air source). and yes, you can remove the emission pods under the air cleaner (i did mine) Turbo gauge is a must in this case IMO since you will remove all the overboost protection. (diagram is from the board member, cant remember the name to give him credit for it)

What about vacuum lines for 1984 300D? I found a black tube disconnected under the steering colum that leads to the "Y" connector by the ALDA and routes to the cruise contro mechanism on top of the valve cover.
I would like to clean up the valve cover area by removing the cruise control system. thank you |

That line is open to the atmosphere as a bleed for the transmission.
It's in the cabin to draw in clean air. You can remove the cc actuator and associated linkage. Search egr delete.

As this is your first post, I'd say, have a look around on the forum first... minimalist vacuum lines for 603 has been covered nicely before. See if you can find it using searching skills, if not report back here.

CLARIFICATION
My other post was about 617 engines, the 603s may be the same, maybe not.
UPDATE: Yeah, similar anyway. That is a vent line.

Thank you! By accident I managed to mimic what you've done to your car. I am happy to hear that the black tubing does not lead or attached to anything. It sure makes the engine bay look much cleaner. I also did the EGR MOD manking my cap off plug for the exhause and the plate for the intake manifold. Camera is MIA when I find it I will take photos of the lastest addition to Miss Doris.
