I was not aware of it. it looks like it might work. It does not have the removable lower section but in my application I think perhaps the upper pan would come down since there is not a cross member in the middle.

I'll go look some more at my engine and car.

Thanks for the lead!

They also have a kit, and I've heard of people cutting the oil pump pickup down an inch or two to get even more clearance. You can get the oil capacity back by making the (now shallower) pan longer, and put in a larger oil cooler.

EDIT: A turbo intercooled 616 with some pump tweaks should be able to keep up with a stock turbo 617. Even if it only hit 100hp, it's that much lighter.

If I could buy such a pumped up 616 ready to go I would definately consider it.

Today i drove to Greensburg to Studebaker International to get some parts for the 39. The coupe express gets interest from the studie guys. Some try to criticize me for modifying it but I'm going to use it so it will need upgraded drive train.

I got king pin bushings and bearins and rubber suspension bushings. All of the parts are NOS and in the 1939 packages. Cool!

I bought a few patches, a bumper sticker and a little 6" long diecast of the 51 commander similar to the one we had when we were kids for my Brother.

Then I dropped the commander organ donor car in Anderson to my builder....got stuck 3 times in his driveway on his 6" of wet packing slippery snow but offloaded it and made it home bout 730.

Been going since 630 when i left the house to push snow here.

I'll sleep well tonight.

I went and measured again and I don't believe that pan will give enough clearance.

I'm back home now with three studey motors, a chevy turbo 350 tranny, a chebby adapter and a chebby alumimum bell housing, an extra two barrel carb, an extra four barrel carb and a bunch of misc. extra parts.

Phil is a real gentleman. He had the motor in the picture all set up with an auxiliary fuel tank and pump and secured so it could be started up. He started it up and let me hear it run for a few minutes. It sounded awesome through those side pipes with no muffs. We loaded it all up. It took a couple of hours. I got the nickel tour of the place, got to pet his dog and look at all his toys.

Both spare motors are free to turn by hand. The 289 from the president has spun rod bearings. The full flow 259 Phil thinks might be good enough to run if a fellow wanted to. I'm gonna pull the heads on that one to see how good it is as soon as I can.

I spent Saturday night in Kalamazoo and visited my mom and two sisters and my first cousin and had a sort of mini reunion. Sunday on the way back I stopped off in Elkhart and visited my cousin who I am good friends with and have not seen for a few years.

My cousin is my mom's first cousin who made a small fortune back when a fellow could build houses and sell them and make a good living at it. He made a poor decision with some of his money back about ten years ago and lost pretty much everything. He is an amazing speciman though and a couple of years ago built a house completely with his own hands (at age 77 or 78) and sold it. He has retired again though and now his wife (about 15 to 20 years younger) is supporting him (his words). He and I get along very well because our professional endeavours are similar.

A great weekend!

Today i am unloading three uberheavy stude motors from my truck. I bought a couple of car dollys to put two of them on so I can move them around my garage easier.

I'm off to Florida today. Spring break.

I'll be stopping off in Knoxville to pick up my fiberglass fender to replace the one I lost on the way home from Minnesota.

Thanks!

I'll Keep it in mind. I think its prolly a bit too much of a drive from here though.

Tom

Yesterday I had a very nice visit with the fellow who made the fender for me. He has a very nice Studebaker specific business making all sorts of things for people who want to drive their studies including wiring, upholstery and fiberglass body parts I got the full nickel tour for about an hour and a half, here in Milton about 1 am my time.

I just talked to my race car mechanic who is working on the Studey. He has removed the body and all parts that need to come off and has rotisseried the frame and painted it with black por 15. Next step is to do the body repairs. The only thing he found that we had not noticed before is the rocker on the driver side is pretty gone so he will fabricate a part for that.

He promised pics along with the invoice. I expect that will be in the next few days.

My plan is to restore the running gear and the underside of the car and leave the exposed body looking like a barn find.

I'll do the interior pretty will and instal ac too.

I loaded up a bunch of stuff to take to my fabricator for the studie.....the new (to me) motor with tranny attached, driveshaft and carrier bearing, bell housing, fw, clutch disc and pp, chevy bell housing, misc interior parts, inner fender panels, front bumper and hood.

I'm pooped after loading all that stuff.

I'm gonna head out fairly early tomorrow.
