Which do I do first?

So I've got two projects to do while the weather is getting nastier outside (Hurricane going to hit land sometime soon).

I've got calipers from a 1st gen w126 and the rears off of my w123 300TD that I'm going to rebuild and paint.

I've also got the two front LCAs off the car, ready to get paint, sanding, and new rubber.

Which do I do first? Do I put the new seals/bushings in each? Or do I prep and paint?

Well 'cos I'd like to see pictures of a caliper rebuild on the forum (DIY hint hint?) I say start with them!

(Though you've got to explain about wear and show when they really are too far gone!)

I would prep and get ready for paint before the bushings. I wouldn't paint with the rain since I had bad luck painting some parts for my old truck during a hurricane a few years ago. The paint didn't set properly because of the humidity and I had to re-do it.

Haha. I'll break out the camera and start with the w126 ones for the front. I've already taken a wire brush to them to remove all the gunk and dirt.

Actually I'm rebuilding them because I have no history on them. I pulled them from a junkyard w126 to do the upgrade to vented rotors.

I probably didn't have to rebuild, but I'd rather know the condition before I try to stop my car with them. And like you, I'll take anything to bits if it's sitting around and I have the time (or even if I don't have the time).

Well good luck - I'll look forward to seeing the pictures. Are you planning on changing the booster? I'm not sure if the W126 one will fit...

...could be fun!

I wasn't, but someone recently told me that a w126 booster will fit without modification. So.... next time I'm out in the yard....
