I'm under the impression Omegaman works on diesel-electric locomotives.

Talk to Walter White. Although he's probably not the safest for breaking into railroads...

Well the older locomotives have no security devices. The box cars and containers probably just have lead sealing strips.

Seriously though in what area? One of my son in laws spent part of his early heavy equipment apprenticeship servicing the locomotives. When he got into his third year the company tended to release their people as they did not want to pay the requisite wages. This was for a canadian carrier. Kind of understood by all the guys working there at the time. I imagine that policy was eventually changed.

What type of work do you want to do?

Be aware that those jobs will likely be union so you will need " papers " unless you are general labor, pay dues ( RE: extortion / protection ) and you will have to deal with the attendant ". . . don't remove those two screws because you will be taking the electrician's job. . . ".

I used to ride on the train in the town where I worked. One of my older officers retired and went to work for San Joaquin Valley Railroad as a brakeman. It seemed like decent pay and he was happy. I was looking for the same gig....

I have been on the rails for past 8 years in California working for this guys Careers at Union Pacific from Roseville. I like the job but hate the company. If you like to become Brakeman, Switchman Conductor or Engineer apply for train crew position.

Brakeman is perhaps not the dangerous job it once was. I was not even aware they still had them. Proportionally a lot of brakeman died on the job in the old days.

Damn those interfering OSHA regulations! Really cuts down on new openings in the job markets!

All the live long day! Sorry I couldn't resist. No I really don't but wish I did. I couldn't deal with all the union rules though.

SJVR is a short line, or class 3 railroad. If you here for the money, like me, you better of with class 1 railroad like UPRR or BNSF here in Cali. Amtrak is good also, but I prefer dealing with boxcars rather than stupid passengers sometimes
