1986 300SDL fuel line routing

(there's currently a thread similar to this subject about a 1993 300D, but I didn't want to clobber their thread).

My 1986 300SDL has fuel line routing that has been modified to be similar to what is shown in 1993 300D 2.5 Turbo fuel line routing. In that thread it was mentioned that it appeared that the fuel heater circuit appears to have been bypassed.

My car has a similar fuel line routing. Just a couple of days ago I was wondering what those extra fuels lines were for; especially since they don't appear to be connected to anything.

My current level of education only covers the W123/617 engines, so bear with me. I would guess from the name that these bypassed pieces are for warming the fuel. Why would this be bypassed; is this a traditional leak location? Will I experience better engine performance by reconnecting this heater? Does it even matter to me down here in 70+ degree weather in January in Houston?

If the consensus is that I don't really need this heater to be utilized, are there any difficulties with simply removing all of the parts? (Yes, I will get to the EGR eventually). TIA!

This is the consensus. Especially true down in Houston.

No difficulties whatsoever in removing the parts. I've done it on the side of the road on one occasion that I'd rather not recall when trying to fix a no run issue.
