Smokescreen's gone... Is that good or bad?

So I was getting too much of a clatter from my engine, like you throw a bunch of metal balls into the engine, and putting in new injector nozzles fixed that. As a byproduct, however, I noticed that one of my favorite features in a diesel, which is the smokescreen (you know, someone follows you a bit too close, you step on it and they immediately keep their distance for the rest of the journey) is gone... I've been trying to get it out, as tailgating is one of the favorite activities for drivers here in Utah, and I can see no smoke... nor does the tailgater, much to my chagrin. Now I have to slow down if I want to get rid of a tailgater. Is this almost total abscence of smoke normal or is this a sign of not too good things to come in my engine?

Ha! sounds like there is a deficit to getting the engine in perfect tune...

perhaps you can tweak the alda to get it to dump some extra fuel in there for the smoke you need!

It's a Good Thing. Smoke is incompletely burned fuel. It's money going right out your exhaust pipe.

I don't view it at money out the tail pipe. I look at it as insurance that someone won't rear end me.

cirrusman, no smoke is a good thing. It means your engine is happy, and has a lot of life left in it. Though I do enjoy the space that people tend to leave behind me.

You will have to take up Tobacco Chewing and spitting.

And, put a sign to that effect on you Bumper.

You could adjust your ADLA to give you more Fuel so that if you give it a little more Pedal you get some Black Smoke.

I appreciate your guys' input. I guess I was worried about nothing. I do like the after turbo oil injection idea... And I did adjust my ALDA half a turn CCW a couple of years ago... It did give it more "umph" but the MPG went down a bit so I'll live Mr ALDA alone...

When I drive my gasoline MB I never have tailgaters aside from the police. Maybe try driving faster Either smoke will come back or you will pull away and problems are solved.

Since Oil has obvious disadvantages how about Post Turbo Water Injection. You could lay out a nice cloud of white Steam.

Or rear-facing high pressure mayonnaise squirter, should smear all over their windscreen

I like that Ammonia idea.
Bleach (Chlorox), Chlorene this is what most Catalitic Convertors smell like. Yuck.

A little Cynide injection and bye bye tailgaters.

Injecting Diesel will give you some pretty white smoke.

Rear Bumper mounted Window Washer Squirters shooting Diesel (or favorite liquid) to spray back towards them.

Around here every enviro nut will call in your Lic # to the SF Bay area Air Quality Control agency. I got a notice from them on my Datsun PU, and I usually don`t see smoke coming out of it.

Apparently I'm not the only one who's been watching the James Bond marathon this week.
