replacing door boot (hose)
In have a 84 300d with a rotten boot p/n 123 821 06 97 on the door. grease from the hinge dropped on it and rotted the rubber. Is there an easy way to replace or repair this boot?
It looks like I would have to remove the door panel and disconnect the door vacuum lines, window wires and mirror wires. That's a lot of work for a rubber boot. ![]() Last edited by dave84_300d; 03-31-2013 at 12:27 PM. Reason: edit part number |

It could be. Fortunately, on the front door, the window motor wires can be disconnected. If your mirror has a plug in the wiring under the mounting base, the job shouldn't be too bad.

The only way to do this is to open the door card and snake the wires and hoses out and back in with the conduit in place.
I had to do this on the 300TD, it revealed several frayed wires caused by poor choice of strand counts on M-Bs part. I would carefully inspect the wire pack going to the door. It would not hurt to replace the vacuum hoses if they appear brittle as well.

You also have vacuum hoses that go through the boots which are not easy to snake out and will more than likely snap.

Now to remove the mirror so the wire can be disconnected? An what type of wire to use for splicing out the bad wire? Solder and heat shrink tubing? It seems like a wear point with be within the boot. Are the window switch connector reused? It looks like I will need to remove the carpet again. Any aftermarket fixes to seal over the boot? |
