Exclamation Quick: Checking out an OM606

Checking out a 606 turbo today, It's out of the car. I plan on running a compression test by yanking all the injectors, hooking up to cyl #1, running the starter from a battery, and repeating for cylinders 2-6.

I'm looking for 400 psi on each cylinder right?

Am I missing out on anything?

If it is like a 603, it will need new injector seal rings.

Just spin it over by hand. If it gives a good amount of resistance you can bet on the compression being acceptable.

But your method seems like its good.

how much do they want for the engine?

Will need a 22mm, super deep, very thin walled socket to pull the inj's.

Might want to pull the GP's too.......

Stuck/broken glow plugs more likely a problem than low compression.
Do the compression test and R&R the glow plugs.

I honestly wouldn't bother with a compression test. Only thing that sucks is you cannot start it and run it because of the injection pump's computer junk.

I need to do a compression check only 606 then. I hope my 22 socket is thin enough to fit

Grabbed it for less than a grand, had decent compression on the cylinders we could get at. Don't buy the HF diesel compression tester it's garbage.

The glow plugs came out by hand and appeared to be new

nice! Congrats as well on the glow plugs. Sadly mine has one stuck .

Also keep the pump from it and swap the DV's from the 606 pump into a 603 pump. Wish I had kept my 606 pump.

Pics! and welcome to the club! What will you be swapping it into?

It's my buddie's motor, I just had the truck to move it

He will probably put it into a 300CD or a DJ5, either way it will be nuts.

I'm so deep in the 617 game that I can't get out :p

Hey there! I'm the buddy with the "new" 606!

Here's the ad I replied to:

96 to 99 mercedes benz e300 engine and transmission

The auto trans is still for sale. Supposedly 160-170k miles.
I have no affiliation with the seller!

Also, my build will be anything but "lame"!
Om606 + Getrag 265/6 + Holset he351ve = awesome in ANY vehicle!

I welcome your comments or suggestions.
